Kazan, is Twisted Barrel Ale's American Pale Ale and oh yes it is good, very good. Comparing it to the other APAs on the market this is definitely in the top 20 percent.
Thick and chewy body packed up by a trio of American hops, which each batch differing in the hops that you get. Mine was Ekuanot, Citra and El Dorado.
I am not by any means a fan of Ekuanot or El Dorado, I get the appeal but I usually find them much too bitter for my liking. This blend though did change my mind, which shows how important balance is to a brew.
You get the Citra flavours up front that blast you smooth, tropical, coolness then the El Dorado follows with the bitter orange rind, slowly making its way to the back of your palate, followed by more orangey goodness with Ekuanot, which takes you home, leaving a nicer bitter burn on the back on your tongue.
In a market dominated by sweet, juicy murk bombs, this bitter murk bomb is a welcome treat.
