Northern Monk - Dark & Wild City 2019 // Chocolate Brownie Sundae Stout

Day shot past really, lots of little tasks that kept cropping up. Did manage a little stroll in the evening chill which definitely woke me up though.

James put forward this beer tonight which is another step on my journey of never liking the 'classic' stout, so interested to see what this one has in store. It's a collab that also adds @wanderbeyondbrewing and Old Chimneys Brewery joint expertise into the mix. So, the can is jet black with white highlights showing off the @darkwildcity festival logo and an energetic, lightening touched hop!

To be honest, a shit can opening, but my saviour came in the rich malty smells that were produced with the immediate picture of chocolate soaked sponge fingers coming into my thoughts. The first swig doubled down on that with a lovely tiramisu/brownie coating of the mouth, and quite frankly a liquefied malt-chocolate dessert! Each swig after was more of the same warming taste delivered on that feint stout alcohol background that didn't impose at all. Brilliantly balanced, and coming from a non-stout fan, just an incredible piece of brewing...make any journey it takes to grab this beer... Happy Thursday and cheers everyone!

First whiff was a light coffee one with a light sweetness just behind, but you could tell there was something goid on it's way. My following swig was a thick coffee and chocolate taste that you could tell was just packed and full with quality. At the end was a sweet berry finish that just took the edge of the stout being too heavy and balanced...a perfect touch.

First smell is that classic floral and feint tropical one, very light. The following swig had that nice fruity flavour on a very lightly hopped delivery, but I just didn't get that blueberry hit. There was a subtle dab at the back of the mouth, but I could really barely notice it and was expecting a lot more punch. I'm not a huge blueberry fan, however I was interested to see what this can would offer....unfortunately, I'll be waiting for that blueberry beer experience.

The can has the classic Polly's drip on top of a luscious flowery background. First smell is a rich coffee and almost chocolatey vibe with a tantalising raspberry essence to finish. The following taste was a lot lighter than I expected, but still had a certain fullness to it...the bonus was a lot stronger raspberry hit that was really well balanced.
