Happy Veganuary! - Newsletter 14/01/21
Veganuary
Happy Veganuary from BeerCraft! Grab some of our vegan beers!
If you're one of the thousands of people trying to go vegan this month for Veganuary, we've got you covered!

In its purest form with water, hops, barley and yeast, beer is obviously vegan - but for years, many traditional breweries wanted perfectly clear beer.  Beer will clear on it's own given enough time, but breweries wanted to speed up the process.

Somehow, someone found out that the ground up swim bladders of the Cod fish (Isinglass) caused the particles in the beer to clump together and drop to the bottom. More recently breweries have been using finings made from gelatin or crustaceans.  This process is called "fining" and the additives used are all called finings.
The finished beer doesn't actually contain any animal products but uses them to make them clear.

Rest assured
The craft beer revolution has brought many good things, one of them being love for hazy, unfined beers and a more conscious attitude.
Almost all of the beers we sell are not fined, no fish of beef added! This means it has lots more flavour and an awesome hazy appearance.

So if you are taking a break from meat, then we have lots of vegan friendly beers. Grab some and enjoy a guilt-free drink this January!
Surely beer is one of your five a day, right?

There are a quite a few helpful websites out there if you want to check if something is vegan, for beers, here are BeerCraft we use Barnivore with their huge, very reliable database.

There is one other ingredient to keep an eye out for - Lactose.  Some beers like milk stouts or milkshake IPAs sometimes have lactose added to them, making them smoother and sweeter. Lactose is a non fermentable sugar derived from milk, so is not suitable for vegans either.

Just look for the following logo on the can to easily see if it's vegan.  We are in the process of creating a Vegan category on our website and will be adding beers to it that have the vegan logo.
ON TAP
You can still enjoy draught beer, just not inside a pub.
Pop in with an empty bottle and we can fill it up from the taps, or buy one of our cool growlers that you can use over and over again!

We also have plastic bottles if you forget yours, and you can get a litre of your favourite one couriered to your door!
