Founders Brewing - Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS)

Founders Brewing - Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS)

Very long day of picking and packing for the shop, but managed to get a nice walkies in the sub zero temperatures before James picking out a nice stout for my journey back. Met the missus on the train and as a whisky fan she was more than happy to help with this blog.

The brown bottle has a weathered parchment like label that would look good on any spaghetti western movie...really fits the bill.

First smell is just thick melted chocolate flowing out before that bourbon kick makes an appearance. My following excited swig didn't leave me disappointed as those smells were combined perfectly in my mouth before a light coffee edge showed up. The balance is just brilliant as that smooth chocolate taste is fused with a whisky kick that almost gives you two full drinks on one. Couldn't recommend this enough and am stunned that I'm unexpectedly becoming a stout fan!

Happy monday everyone, and cheers!🍻 Han

First whiff was a light coffee one with a light sweetness just behind, but you could tell there was something goid on it's way. My following swig was a thick coffee and chocolate taste that you could tell was just packed and full with quality. At the end was a sweet berry finish that just took the edge of the stout being too heavy and balanced...a perfect touch.

First smell is that classic floral and feint tropical one, very light. The following swig had that nice fruity flavour on a very lightly hopped delivery, but I just didn't get that blueberry hit. There was a subtle dab at the back of the mouth, but I could really barely notice it and was expecting a lot more punch. I'm not a huge blueberry fan, however I was interested to see what this can would offer....unfortunately, I'll be waiting for that blueberry beer experience.

The can has the classic Polly's drip on top of a luscious flowery background. First smell is a rich coffee and almost chocolatey vibe with a tantalising raspberry essence to finish. The following taste was a lot lighter than I expected, but still had a certain fullness to it...the bonus was a lot stronger raspberry hit that was really well balanced.
