Amundsen - Chuggernaut

Amundsen - Chuggernaut

End of my working week and James's recommendation was made to broaden my horizons in the realms of New England IPA'S. As he handed it over I couldn't help but be impressed by the artwork! Vibrant maroon, green and turquoise colours bring a floating spaceman to life across the can as he stretches across the galaxy...it's pretty damn cool!

With a confident triple tap to the base of the can and slow opening, a very gentle aroma filtered through with feint hops already working their way out. First taste was a deliciously smooth and creamy intake with a tropical, juicy layering which seemed beautifully balanced. A gentle malted wheat was ever present, but there was no bitterness to finish and no punch to the drink at any stage.

The Chuggernaut is certainly a drink you could chug if you so wished with its smooth flowing taste, but taking your time sipping on a chilled train ride home seems a great option to me. This particular New England IPA certainly has a different feel with its more mellow citrusy flavours complimenting the creamier feel, but it's certainly one that I'd highly recommend you try to potentially open up a whole new range of beers.

Amundsen - Chuggernaut (Finished)

39 minutes and still sipping and savouring the taste. That's all for now and I'll catch you in a couple of days.

Cheers!

Pretty pants can opening was followed immediately by a deliciously light piney aromatic smell shooting up to my nose. The proceeding swig had a really powerful (if not slightly top heavy) hit of hops which delivered a rush to the system, then a quite soft citrusy and zesty climax.

A light citrusy smell came sweeping up with a massive hop scent that already gets the senses tingling. The first swig then gives more of the same with those powerful Citra and Amarillo hops exploding on your tongue, before a solid citrus and blood orange taste finishes just behind.

First taste certainly packed a punch, with that malty, hoppy delivery sweeping you off on a sea of bubbles before a slight bitterness coming from the rear. It's certainly a very classic tasting bavarian beer with those earthy hay and pine like tones seeping through.
